Together with a jump host
The proxy gets you to the first SSH server, and the jump route takes it from there.
Details
SOCKS5 and HTTP CONNECT
Both kinds, with or without a user name and password.
Profiles
Attach one profile to any number of machines, and change the password in one place.
SwiftServer’s connections only
Your device’s network settings stay as they are.
Per rule, when needed
A forwarding rule can use a different proxy from its machine.
How to use one
- 01
Open Resources, then Proxy
Proxy profiles live beside machines, identities, and SSH keys.
- 02
Create a profile
Name, type, host, and port. Add a user name and password if the proxy asks for one.
- 03
Attach it to a machine
In the machine settings, choose the profile under the connection proxy option.
- 04
Connect
The connection opens through the proxy, and the machine behaves like any other from there on.
- 05
Override where you need to
A forwarding rule can carry its own proxy when the machine’s default is wrong for that one tunnel.
Questions
Which proxy types does SwiftServer support?
SOCKS5 and HTTP CONNECT. Either can run without authentication or with a user name and password. The defaults are port 1080 and port 8080, and both can be changed.
Does a proxy profile route my whole device?
No. It applies to the connections SwiftServer makes for that machine or rule. Your system networking and other apps are untouched.
Can I use a proxy and a jump host at the same time?
Yes. The proxy carries the connection to the first SSH hop, and the jump route continues from there to the target.
Where are proxy credentials stored?
In the Keychain on your device, like SSH passwords and private keys. With iCloud sync on, they go to iCloud Keychain, which Apple encrypts end to end.
Does Mosh work through a proxy?
Mosh starts over SSH through the proxy, then runs over UDP straight to the machine, so give it a UDP Host that is reachable without the proxy.
Do connection proxies cost extra?
Yes. Connection proxies are part of Premium, together with jump hosts. The terminal, Mosh, SFTP, and snippets are free.
