How it connects

  1. 01

    Open Toolbox, then Docker

Pick any machine you already reach over SSH.

  2. 02

    Connect

SwiftServer uses the credentials saved for that machine. There is nothing else to set up.

  3. 03

    The engine is found

SwiftServer locates the Docker engine on the server and checks that it can talk to it.

  4. 04

    The panel fills in

Containers, images, volumes, and networks arrive, then the event feed opens.

  5. 05

    It stays current

Containers refresh every few seconds, and events push changes in between.

Questions

Do I need to expose the Docker API on a port?

No. SwiftServer reaches the Docker socket through SSH. Your daemon stays unreachable from the network, and nothing is installed on the host.

Does it work with rootless Docker, OrbStack, or Colima?

Yes. SwiftServer finds the engine the same way the docker CLI does, which covers rootless daemons and the common Mac runtimes, including Docker Desktop and Rancher Desktop.

Can I open a shell inside a container?

Yes. Open a running container and choose Open Shell under Operations. SwiftServer starts bash if the image has it, otherwise sh, over the same SSH connection. Open Shell is part of Premium.

Can I build or push images?

No. Images can be pulled, tagged, removed, pruned, and inspected. Building, pushing, and private registry logins are not supported.

What is free and what is Premium?

Looking is free: all seven tabs, live stats, charts, and events. Acting is Premium: start, stop, restart, remove, pull, prune, Compose operations, container shells, logs, processes, and inspect.

Which Docker versions are supported?

Anything from Docker 1.12 (2016) onward. SwiftServer negotiates the API version with your daemon automatically.
